Ferndale is an incorporated city in Whatcom County, Washington, United States with a population of 8,758. It is located in the northwest corner of the state approximately 13 miles south of the British Columbia border. Ferndale actually received its name from a local school teacher. The teacher changed the communities name from Jam to Ferndale because of the ferns that grew around the communities original school house.
